BORN OF GOD, THE EVIDENCE YOU CAN’T FAKE - I John 3
OPENING HOOK
- Cultural Christianity vs real transformation
- Language without life, belief without evidence
- God is not confused about who belongs to Him
- This chapter draws a line in the sand
- Key question: Has God actually changed you?
SEGMENT 1: IDENTITY, WHAT WE ARE NOW (1 John 3:1–3)
- “Behold” the love of the Father, stop and see it
- Called children of God, not working toward it, already are
- Identity is received, not achieved
- The world doesn’t recognize you because it didn’t recognize Him
- Future promise: we will be like Him
- Present response: hope produces purity
Key Points
- Identity precedes behavior
- You don’t fight for identity, you fight from it
- Purity flows from who you are, not who you’re trying to become
Application Questions
- Am I living as a son or performing as a servant?
- Is my holiness driven by fear or identity?
- What doesn’t align with who I already am in Christ?
SEGMENT 2: SIN & RIGHTEOUSNESS, THE LINE IN THE SAND (1 John 3:4–10)
- Sin defined as lawlessness, not mistakes but rebellion
- Jesus came to take away sin, not manage it
- Ongoing sin reveals direction, not perfection but pattern
- Two families: children of God vs children of the devil
- Righteousness is evidence, not performance
Key Points
- The gospel destroys sin’s authority
- You cannot abide in Christ and settle into sin
- Your lifestyle reveals your spiritual lineage
Application Questions
- What sin am I tolerating instead of killing?
- Where am I redefining sin to stay comfortable?
- What patterns in my life reveal my direction?
SEGMENT 3: LOVE, THE DEFINING MARK (1 John 3:11–18)
- Message from the beginning: love one another
- Cain vs Abel, hatred born from exposed hearts
- The world’s hatred confirms alignment with Christ
- Love proves you’ve passed from death to life
- Hatred equals spiritual death
- Love defined by Christ, laying down His life
- Love is action, not words
Key Points
- Love is the clearest evidence of new birth
- Hatred reveals unresolved darkness
- Real love costs something
Application Questions
- Who have I refused to love?
- Where am I reacting instead of repenting?
- Is my love sacrificial or convenient?
- Do my actions match my words?
SEGMENT 4: ASSURANCE, KNOWING YOU’RE HIS (1 John 3:19–24)
- Assurance comes from lived truth, not feelings
- God is greater than a condemning heart
- Confidence before God comes through alignment
- Obedience shapes confidence and prayer life
- Command simplified: believe in Jesus and love people
- The Spirit confirms God’s presence within
Key Points
- You don’t have to guess your standing
- Feelings don’t determine truth, God does
- Confidence grows through obedience
Application Questions
- Do I live with confidence or constant doubt?
- Am I trusting my feelings or God’s truth?
- Is my life aligned or divided?
- Do I see evidence of the Spirit in me?
CLOSING LANDING
- You can’t claim identity without evidence
- You can’t claim the Father and live like the enemy
- You can’t claim love and walk in hate
- The gospel is not behavior modification, it’s transformation
- You are not trying to become, you are becoming what you already are
