It Is FINISHED: The Sacrifice That Ended All Sacrifices - Hebrews 10

1. The Problem: The Law Could Never Remove Sin

Hebrews 10:1-4

  • The law was a shadow of better things to come

  • Old Testament sacrifices were symbolic, not final

  • Sacrifices were repeated continually

  • Repetition proved the system never solved the problem

  • The sacrifices reminded people of sin

  • Animal blood could never truly remove human sin

  • The entire system pointed forward to a greater sacrifice

Key Truth

  • Religion manages guilt

  • Christ removes guilt

2. The Solution: Christ Came to Fulfill God's Will

Hebrews 10:5-10

  • Jesus entered the world with a mission

  • God ultimately desired obedience, not endless sacrifices

  • The incarnation: a body prepared for Christ

  • Jesus came to do the will of the Father perfectly

  • The old system was replaced by the new covenant

  • Christ became the final sacrifice

  • His offering was once for all

Key Truth

  • Christianity is not about trying harder

  • It is about trusting the finished work of Christ

3. The Finished Work of Christ

Hebrews 10:11-18

  • Priests stood daily offering repeated sacrifices

  • Their work was never finished

  • Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins forever

  • Christ sat down at the right hand of God

  • His sacrifice perfected believers forever

  • Believers are positionally forgiven

  • Believers are practically being sanctified

  • The Holy Spirit confirms the New Covenant promise

  • God's law is now written on the heart

  • God chooses to remember sins no more

  • Because sin is forgiven, no further sacrifice is needed

Key Truth

  • Believers live from forgiveness, not toward forgiveness

4. The Response: Live Boldly Because of Christ

Hebrews 10:19-25

Draw Near to God

  • Believers have confidence to enter God's presence

  • Access to God comes through the blood of Jesus

  • Christ opened a new and living way

  • Jesus is the High Priest over God's house

  • Approach God with full assurance of faith

Hold Fast to Hope

  • Hold firmly to the confession of faith

  • Do not waver in difficult seasons

  • Our hope rests on God's faithfulness

Encourage One Another

  • Stir one another toward love and good works

  • Do not neglect gathering together

  • Encourage each other as Christ's return approaches

Key Truth

  • Faith grows stronger in community and perseverance

5. The Warning: Do Not Reject the Only Sacrifice

Hebrews 10:26-39

  • Deliberately rejecting Christ leaves no other sacrifice

  • Rejecting the gospel results in judgment

  • Rejecting Christ is described as:

    • trampling the Son of God

    • treating His blood as common

    • insulting the Spirit of grace

  • God is just and will judge sin

  • Remember past faithfulness during hardship

  • Believers must endure with confidence

  • The righteous live by faith

  • True believers do not shrink back

Key Truth

  • Genuine faith perseveres
