  • You never reach the point where you have loved enough
  • Love is not owed because people deserve it

• 3. Love fulfills the law, Romans 13:8

  • Love does not eliminate God's moral standard

  • Love asks, "What will this do to them?"

  • Sometimes love speaks
  • Sometimes love stays quiet
  • Sometimes love gives
  • Sometimes love says no

  • We do not love to become God's children
  • We love because we have been loved by God

  • Put a name on your "neighbor"
  • Who needs forgiveness?
  • Who needs grace?
  • Who needs an apology?
  • Where are you carrying bitterness?
  • Where are you using truth as a weapon?
  • What would love require of you today?

Segment Two: Wake Up, Morning Is Coming

Romans 13:11-14

• 1. Know what time it is, Romans 13:11

  • Christ has come
  • Christ has died
  • Christ has risen
  • The Spirit has been given
  • Christ will return
  • History is moving toward God's appointed conclusion

• 2. Wake up from spiritual sleep, Romans 13:11

  • Christians can become spiritually sleepy
  • Routine is not the same as spiritual life
  • Ephesians 5:14
  • Stop sleepwalking through things that matter
  • Pay attention to your soul

• 3. Salvation is nearer, Romans 13:11

  • Justification: saved from sin's penalty
  • Sanctification: being delivered from sin's power
  • Glorification: ultimately delivered from sin's presence
  • Philippians 1:6
  • Every day brings us closer to seeing Christ
  • This creates urgency, not anxiety

• 4. The night is almost over, Romans 13:12

  • Night versus day
  • Darkness versus light
  • Sleep versus wakefulness
  • The "already and not yet"
  • Christ's Kingdom has already broken into history
  • Its fullness is still coming
  • Morning is guaranteed

• 5. Cast off the works of darkness, Romans 13:12

  • Do not negotiate with darkness
  • Do not merely manage what God says to remove
  • Hebrews 12:1
  • Some things need management
  • Some things need eviction

• 6. Put on the armor of light, Romans 13:12

  • Christianity is not merely subtraction
  • Take off darkness
  • Put on light
  • Holiness is not simply "stop doing bad things"
  • Replace the old with the new

  • Orgies
  • Drunkenness
  • Sexual immorality
  • Sensuality
  • Quarreling
  • Jealousy
  • Do not excuse your own sins because someone else's look worse
  • Darkness is darkness

• 8. Examine the respectable sins

  • Jealousy: resenting what God gave someone else
  • Quarreling: needing to win more than pursuing peace
  • Gossip
  • Anger
  • Resentment
  • Pride
  • Holiness reaches motives and attitudes, not merely visible behavior

• 9. Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, Romans 13:14

  • This is the heart of Christian transformation
  • Put on His character
  • Humility
  • Holiness
  • Compassion
  • Courage
  • Obedience
  • Love
  • Colossians 3:12
  • Romans 8:29
  • Ask: "Do I look more like Jesus today?"

• 10. Make no provision for the flesh, Romans 13:14

  • Stop planning opportunities for your flesh to win
  • Know your weaknesses
  • Know your triggers
  • Remove access
  • Change routines
  • Establish boundaries
  • Confess what you are hiding
  • Stop asking God for victory while preparing for defeat

• 11. Don't feed what you're asking God to kill

  • Matthew 5:29-30
  • Take sin seriously
  • Remove what continually leads you toward compromise
  • Make provision for the Spirit instead

• 12. Remember your identity

  • You do not reject darkness to earn your way into the light
  • You reject darkness because in Christ you already belong to the light
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:5
  • Live according to who Christ has made you
